In recent years, diphtheria, a disease once almost eradicated, has quietly returned. This highly contagious and potentially deadly infection is making headlines again, especially with outbreaks reported in parts of the world. What is diphtheria and why is it dangerous?<\/strong><\/h2>

Diphtheria is caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It primarily affects the upper respiratory tract, throat, and tonsils, but can also affect the skin and other mucous membranes. In addition to respiratory symptoms, diphtheria can produce a toxin that damages vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, and nervous system.
